The mechanical engineering and assembly company Cameto has been contracted by FCC Construction and Aqualia for the manufacturing and mechanical assembly of the expansion of the Bucharest WWTP (Romania).

Being the largest in the country, this wastewater treatment plant is located in Glina, on the outskirts of Bucharest, whose expansion and modernization represents an increase in the management capacity of the wastewater generated by both Bucharest and its metropolitan area, contributing to This, to comply with the environmental objectives that European regulations require for comprehensive water management.

This project, which was awarded in 2017 to the consortium made up of FCC Construction, Aqualia and Suez, was the largest project tendered in Europe that year, reaching an amount close to 113 million euros. This project will mean a very significant improvement in the processing capacity of the WWTP, given that in addition to the expansion of water management and renewal, a sludge incinerator plant will be built, using this process to generate the electrical energy that will be consumed in that process.

The work to be carried out represents an important challenge at a technical and organizational level, since the plant must continue its operation while the work is carried out.

Spanish engineering to carry out the modernization

Cameto will carry out the prefabrication of the pipe sections including their support along with the complete mechanical assembly of the WWTP. The assembly will include, among others, the assembly of pumps and electromechanical equipment.

The treatment plant includes as its main systems: primary treatment (coarse separator, sand trap, degreaser), distribution, biological reactor and chemical treatments.

The Cameto company, located in Tomelloso, which had already carried out different works in the past on the renovations and expansions of the Zimnicea, Agnita and Dumbraveni treatment plants, resumes its projects in Romania.

Development and contribution of CAMETO to sustainability

With this project, Cameto continues to move forward faithful to its commitment to improving the environment in different areas, ranging from the comprehensive management of the water cycle to the area of renewable energies.

With this, Cameto contributes to the improvement and sustainable development in the treatment of the integral water cycle so that Romania can comply with its environmental commitments and the objectives of the United Nations as well as those of the European Union. “
