Cameto collaborates with FCC to build the Chucás hydroelectric plant (Costa Rica)

The Chucás hydroelectric plant, located about 50 kilometers west of the capital San José, was Cameto’s first project in Costa Rica.

The engineering and boilermaking company from La Mancha has collaborated with the construction company FCC in the construction of the Chucás dam, offering its experience in hydraulic infrastructure and technical assistance services.

The company Enel Green Power, a subsidiary of the Endesa Group, is the concessionaire of the Chucás hydroelectric plant and the promoter of a hydroelectric project with a constructed area of 3,600 square meters, which channels water from the Tárcoles River to generate energy.

Together with FCC, Cameto has participated in the construction of this Costa Rican hydraulic infrastructure that, in addition to reducing CO2 emissions by about 150 tons per year, generates more than 200 GWh per year.

For its development, the construction of a dam more than 50 meters high and 230 meters long was carried out, capable of containing a volume of 190,000 cubic meters of water, the equivalent of the consumption of a town of 3,000 inhabitants.

The works carried out in Chucás were completed with the construction of a landfill, as well as access roads to the new facilities and a new bridge over the reservoir. The project has been in service since 2016.”
